An adverb is a word used to describe or modify a verb, an adjective, or another adverb. Some adverbs have degrees of comparison:
the positive, the comparative, and the superlative (fast, faster, fastest). Most adverbs are formed by adding "ly" to the adjective.
   Eg. Adjective: frequent   Adverb: frequently

1) An adverb modifying a verb:    John frequently helps his mother.   adverb: frequently   verb: helps

2) An adverb modifying an adjective:     That idea is simply marvelous.   adverb: simply   adjective: marvelous

3) An adverb modifying an adverb: The carpenter works more skillfully than his assistant.   adverbs: more and skillfully

The four kinds of adverbs are:  manners, place, time, and degree.      (kinds=types)
1. Adverbs of Manner: tell us the manner or way in which something happens. Adverbs of Manner mainly modify verbs.

     Eg. John runs slowly.   verb: runs adverb: slowly   John sang joyously for us.    verb: sang    adverb: joyously
2. Adverbs of Place: tell us the place where this happened. Adverbs of Place mainly modify verbs.

     Eg. Please stand here.  verb: stand   adverb: here   We walked everywhere.    verb: walked    adverb: everywhere
3. Adverbs of Time: tell us about the time that something happens. Adverbs of Time mainly modify verbs.

     Eg. John arrived today.  verb: arrived   adverb: today   The milk is delivered daily.     verb: delivered    adverb: daily
4. Adverbs of Degree: tell us the degree or extent to which something happens. Adverbs of Degree can modify
    verbs, adjectives, or other adverbs.

    Eg. John entirely disagrees with her.  verb: disagrees   adverb: entirely
          Jane is very smart.    adjective: smart   adverb: very
          John spoke quite eloquently.   adverbs: quite and eloquently.
